How do I find NDIS providers near me?

Last reviewed 1 July 2026 · 6 min read · By Sarah M., Support Coordinator
In short

To find NDIS providers near you, search the NDIS provider finder, ask your support coordinator or Local Area Coordinator, and check community recommendations. Compare providers on the supports they offer, their location, availability, and whether they are registered or unregistered, then choose the ones that best match your goals.

Begin with the official NDIS provider finder and any directories your Local Area Coordinator suggests. Word of mouth from other participants, carers, and community groups is also valuable, because lived experience tells you how a provider actually delivers support, not just what it advertises.

Registered or unregistered: what is the difference?

Registered providers are audited and registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and must meet the NDIS Practice Standards. Unregistered providers can still deliver excellent support and may offer more flexibility, but they are not subject to the same registration audits.

Your management type matters here. If your plan is NDIA-managed, you must use registered providers. If you are plan-managed or self-managed, you can choose either registered or unregistered providers.

Questions to ask before you choose

Choosing a provider is about fit, not just availability. A short conversation reveals a lot about how a provider works and whether they understand your goals.

Experience

Do they support people with needs similar to yours, and how do they match workers to clients?

Availability

Can they cover the days, times, and locations you need, including any backup arrangements?

Costs and agreements

How do they charge within price limits, and what does their service agreement include?

Common questions

Questions, answered.

Do I have to use a registered provider? +
Only if your plan is NDIA-managed. Plan-managed and self-managed participants can choose registered or unregistered providers based on what suits them best.
Can I use more than one provider? +
Yes. You can mix providers across different supports, and you are free to choose specialists for particular needs rather than relying on a single organisation.
What if a provider is not the right fit? +
You can change providers. Review your service agreement for notice periods, then arrange a new provider so your supports continue without a gap.
How do I check a provider is legitimate? +
Registered providers appear on NDIS Commission records. For any provider, ask about their experience, references, and how they handle complaints and safeguarding.
Does TQN.Care work with my plan type? +
TQN.Care supports participants across management types. The right arrangement depends on whether your plan is NDIA-managed, plan-managed, or self-managed.
