List of Unregistered NDIS Providers: A Practical Guide for Australians
Last updated 27 October 2026 · 8 min read · By Sarah M., Support Coordinator
In short
There is no single official list of unregistered NDIS providers to choose from. To find a provider, check registration with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, then ask any unregistered provider directly for their details, references and a written service agreement.
This guide shows how to search, what each type of provider can deliver and how to compare options. It builds on our guide to what an NDIS provider is.
Key points
Registered providers can be checked through the NDIS Commission, while unregistered providers need to be checked by asking questions and seeing evidence yourself.
Self-managing participants can use registered or unregistered providers, but some supports must be delivered by registered providers only.
The NDIS Code of Conduct applies to registered and unregistered providers alike.
The NDIA recommends a service agreement when you start with a new provider, so read the pricing and cancellation terms before the first support.

List of unregistered NDIS providers: what exists and what does not
Checking an unregistered provider takes a few extra steps from you.
Do not expect a government-published list of unregistered providers; ask the provider for their ABN, insurance, references and worker screening details instead.
Use the register to check whether a name you have been given is registered, and treat a missing name as a prompt to ask questions, not as proof of anything.
Remember the NDIS Code of Conduct applies to registered and unregistered providers alike.
Search the NDIS Commission’s compliance and enforcement actions for banning orders, compliance notices, enforceable undertakings and suspensions or revocations.
Contact the NDIS Commission if you cannot find a provider that says it is registered.

List of unregistered NDIS providers vs registered: what each can deliver
Your plan management type and the supports you need affect your choices, so check both before you shortlist providers.
Plan management type
Registered providers
Unregistered providers
NDIA-managed
Yes
No — supports for NDIA-managed participants must be delivered by registered providers
Plan-managed
Yes
Check with your plan manager, and remember the supports below must always come from registered providers
Self-managed
Yes
Yes — the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits 2025-26 state that self-managing participants can use registered or unregistered providers and are not subject to the price limits (NDIS Pricing Arrangements)
Rules are tightening. From 1 July 2026, all new providers seeking to deliver supported independent living (SIL) or operate as an NDIS digital platform must be registered, existing unregistered SIL providers had to apply by 1 October 2026, and mandatory registration expands to all high risk supports from 1 July 2027 (NDIA).
How to find an NDIS provider that suits you
Finding the right provider is about fit as well as registration.
1Write down what you need. List the supports, days, times, location and any communication or cultural needs.
2Check your plan. Confirm your budget categories and whether you are NDIA-managed, plan-managed or self-managed.
3Shortlist three or four options. Use the register, word of mouth, your support coordinator and local disability groups.
4Ask the same questions of each. Cover experience, staff screening, how rosters work, communication and what happens when a worker is away.
5Compare prices with the limits. The maximum prices only apply to NDIA-managed and plan-managed participants, and providers cannot charge more than those limits (NDIA); check the current pricing page before you decide.
6Ask for a service agreement. The NDIA recommends one when starting with a new provider, and it is required for specialist disability accommodation providers (NDIA).
Are you registered, and for which supports? If not, how do you show safety and quality?
Workers
Do your workers have NDIS worker screening checks, first aid and relevant training?
Cancellations
What is your cancellation policy? Under the NDIS Pricing Arrangements 2025-26, a short notice cancellation is less than seven (7) days’ notice for disability support worker supports, or less than two (2) clear business days for other supports, and providers can claim up to 100% of the agreed fee. Check the current Pricing Arrangements for the rules that apply now.
Complaints
How do I raise a concern, and who do I contact if it is not resolved?
Assuming a friendly provider is registered without checking the register or asking for their registration number.
Signing a service agreement the same day without reading the cancellation and pricing terms.
Booking an unregistered provider for a support that your plan type requires a registered provider to deliver.
Not checking prices against the price limits when you are plan-managed or NDIA-managed; providers can’t charge more than those limits.
Forgetting to tell your plan manager or support coordinator when you change providers.

Common questions
FAQs about finding an NDIS provider
How do I find an NDIS provider? +
Start with your plan to confirm how it is managed, then search the NDIS Commission’s register, ask your support coordinator and compare two or three providers. Check registration, ask about worker screening and request a written service agreement before you start.
Can I get a list of unregistered NDIS providers? +
There is no official public list of unregistered providers. You can ask providers for their details directly, and you can search the NDIS Commission’s compliance and enforcement actions for banning orders, compliance notices, enforceable undertakings, and suspensions or revocations of registration.
Do I have to use a registered provider? +
Not always. Self-managing participants can use registered or unregistered providers, but supports for NDIA-managed participants and some specialised supports must come from registered providers. Check your plan type and ask your plan manager or the NDIA.
Where can I find a provider’s registration number? +
Ask the provider to put it in writing and then confirm the name and number on the NDIS Commission’s provider register. If something does not match, ask the provider to explain and contact the Commission for advice.
