Support Worker Sleepover Rate (2026): Rates Explained
Last updated 29 October 2026 · 9 min read · By Sarah M., Support Coordinator
In short
From the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2026, the Fair Work pay guide for the SCHADS Award lists a support worker sleepover rate, in the form of a sleepover allowance, of $62.87 for each sleepover (Fair Work pay guide). What you are paid depends on your award stream, classification level, the day and time you work, whether you are casual, and your contract.
This guide sets out the dated figures, the difference between pay and NDIS price limits, and how to check your pay. For the wider picture, see disability support worker salary and pay rates.
Key points
From the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2026, the SCHADS sleepover allowance is $62.87 for each sleepover; before that date, check Fair Work’s Pay and Conditions Tool for the rate that applies to you.
Your award stream and level, the day of the week, public holidays and casual loading all affect what you are paid for a night shift.
Award rates change from dates set by the Fair Work Commission, so check the date that applies to each figure in the pay guide.
Check the Fair Work pay guide and your payslips, and use the NDIS Pricing Arrangements if you charge participants as an independent worker.

Disability sleepover rate and sleepover support worker shifts
If you work disability sleepover shifts, a few practical checks protect your pay.
Ask your employer in writing whether your sleepover shifts are paid under the SCHADS Award and which classification level applies to you.
Check that your payslip includes the sleepover allowance for each sleepover you worked, as well as your hourly pay for other work that shift.
Keep a note of the times you were called on to work during a sleepover, and ask how those hours are paid.
Read the sleepover provisions in the SCHADS Award rather than relying on forum posts or job ads.

Award rate for disability support worker under the SCHADS Award 2010
The SCHADS Award has more than one stream, so always check which one applies to your role.
Home care employee – disability care: the rates in the table above, listed in the pay guide from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2026.
Social and community services employee: level 2 pay point 1 is $1,376.49 a week ($36.22 an hour), and level 3 pay point 1 is $1,538.59 a week ($40.49 an hour), from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2026.
Equal Remuneration Order: the pay guide states the final rate from the order applies to social and community services employees, so the award’s base clause rates alone understate their minimum pay.
Priority Awards Review: the Fair Work Commission’s 2026 decision records a 23 per cent increase in the minimum award rate for a Certificate III-qualified disability home care worker, to be implemented by 1 October 2027 (Fair Work Commission).
The NDIS Commission defines a worker as anyone employed or otherwise engaged to provide NDIS supports, including self-employed people, employees, contractors and volunteers (NDIS Commission).
How to check you are paid or charged correctly
A short check each pay cycle catches most errors early.
1Find your award stream and level. Look at your contract or letter of offer, then match it to the pay guide.
2Open the Fair Work pay guide. Compare your hourly rate, loadings and allowances with the dated figures, noting when each takes effect.
3Use the calculator. Try our NDIS pay rate calculator to compare an hourly rate with the amount you expect.
4Check your payslip. Confirm the hours, the sleepover allowance, any penalty rates and the casual loading match what you worked.
5Ask, then escalate. Raise errors with your employer in writing, then contact the Fair Work Ombudsman if they are not fixed.
If you are looking for night, sleepover or daytime shifts, we would like to hear from you. Common questions
FAQs about the support worker sleepover rate
What is the support worker sleepover rate? +
From the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2026, the SCHADS pay guide lists a sleepover allowance of $62.87 for each sleepover. Before that date, check Fair Work’s Pay and Conditions Tool for the rate that applies to you, and read your contract.
Is the sleepover rate the same as the NDIS price limit? +
No. The NDIS Pricing Schedule 2026-27 lists a price limit of $311.79 each for Night-Time Sleepover. That is the most a provider or independent worker can charge NDIA-managed and plan-managed participants, not what a worker is paid.
Do night support workers get penalty rates? +
Weekends and public holidays raise the hourly rate in the pay guide. From the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2026, for level 2 pay point 1 in home care employee – disability care, the full-time and part-time rate is $49.79 on Saturday and $82.98 on a public holiday. Check the pay guide for night loadings.
Are casual night support workers paid more? +
Under clause 10.4 of the SCHADS Award, casual employees are paid a loading of 25% on top of the minimum hourly rate for their classification. Casual employees also receive at least 2 hours’ pay per disability services shift. Check your contract for details.
