How NDIS nursing is funded

Does the NDIS pay for nursing?

The NDIS funds disability-related health supports: nursing that is needed because of your disability and is part of your daily life, such as complex bowel care, catheter care, enteral feeding or wound care linked to your disability. These are usually funded from your Core Supports budget under Assistance with Daily Life.

Nursing to train and supervise your support workers, or to write care plans, can also be funded from Capacity Building (Improved Daily Living). Acute and hospital care, and care that a GP or the health system provides, stay with the health system. We work with plan-managed and self-managed participants, and we do not guarantee funding outcomes.

Questions

NDIS nursing FAQs.

Does the NDIS fund nursing? +
Yes, for disability-related health supports: nursing you need because of your disability as part of daily life, such as complex bowel care, catheter care, enteral feeding or disability-related wound care. Acute and hospital care stays with the health system.
How much does an NDIS registered nurse cost? +
For 2026-27 the national price limit for a registered nurse is $128.05 an hour on weekdays (daytime), $143.90 on weekday nights and $182.75 on Saturdays. An enrolled nurse is up to $103.44 an hour on weekday days. We charge at or under these limits.
What’s the difference between a nurse and a support worker? +
Support workers can help with many daily health supports once trained. A nurse handles tasks that need clinical skills, writes care plans and trains and supervises support workers. Many participants use both.
Do you provide community nursing? +
Yes. Our nurses visit you at home or in the community across our NSW and VIC service areas, scheduled around your routine.
Can a nurse train my support workers? +
Yes. Nurse-led training and care plans for your support workers can be funded from Capacity Building (Improved Daily Living), so your regular workers can deliver supports safely.
