What NDIS meal preparation covers

Meal preparation support we provide

Help with every step from planning the week’s meals to cleaning up afterwards, at the level of help you want.

Cooking in your home

Your worker cooks breakfast, lunch or dinner in your kitchen, the way you like it.

Meal planning & shopping

Planning the week’s meals, writing the list and doing the shop with you or for you.

Batch cooking & freezing

Cooking several meals at once and labelling them for the freezer, so you’re covered on other days.

Special diets

Following the plan from your dietitian or speech pathologist, including texture-modified meals.

Cooking skills

One-on-one help in your own kitchen to build skills and confidence to cook for yourself.

Kitchen clean-up

Washing up, wiping down and putting things away after the meal.

How meal preparation is funded

Does the NDIS pay for meal preparation?

Yes, where it is reasonable and necessary. Help to prepare and cook meals at home is usually funded from your Core Supports budget under Assistance with Daily Life. Depending on what you need, your worker’s time is claimed as daily personal activities or household tasks, and we set out the support items in your service agreement.

The NDIS can also contribute to the cost of preparing and delivering meals (01_023_0120_1_1), but it doesn’t pay for the food itself: you cover the cost of groceries and ingredients. We work with plan-managed and self-managed participants, and we do not guarantee funding outcomes.

2026-27 price limits (national, weekday per hour)

Evening, weekend and public holiday rates are higher. We charge at or under the limit and show it on every invoice. See the price guide.

Questions

NDIS meal preparation FAQs.

Does the NDIS pay for meals? +
The NDIS can pay for support to prepare and cook meals, and can contribute to the preparation and delivery cost of meals (01_023_0120_1_1). It does not pay for the food itself: you pay for groceries and ingredients, just as anyone would.
How much does NDIS meal preparation cost? +
When a support worker prepares meals with you, the 2026-27 national price limit for standard daily living support is $73.58 an hour on weekdays (6am to 8pm). Household tasks such as cooking for you are up to $60.10 an hour. Your service agreement sets out which item applies.
Can you cook for special diets? +
Yes. We follow your dietitian’s or speech pathologist’s plan, including allergies, diabetic diets and texture-modified food and fluids. Please share the plan with us when you refer.
Do you run NDIS cooking classes? +
We offer one-on-one cooking support in your own kitchen rather than group classes. Your support worker helps you plan, shop and cook, and builds your skills over time.
Can you help me set up meal delivery? +
Yes. If pre-prepared meals suit you better on some days, we can help you choose a meal delivery service and fit it into your plan alongside home cooking.
Will the same worker cook for me each time? +
We aim for a regular worker who learns your tastes and kitchen, and you can ask for a change at any time.
